VAT calculator
VAT is a percentage of the net price. To take VAT out of a total, divide the total by (1 + rate); the VAT is what is left. To add VAT, multiply the net price by the rate. Amounts are kept to the cent, and you choose how the last cent is rounded.
Worked example
- At 20%, a total of 120.00 is 100.00 net + 20.00 VAT.
- At 10%, a net price of 50.00 becomes 55.00 with 5.00 VAT.

Questions people ask
Why is VAT not just 10% of the total?
Because VAT is charged on the net price. At 10%, a total of 110 holds 10 of VAT, which is 1/11 of the total, not 1/10.
Can I use a different rate?
Yes. Type any rate from 0 to 100%. The default is 10%.
